I was selected from over 2000 applicants to be an Intern at Radio 1 and 1Xtra for 2 months. During my time I worked across different shows and departments, I received training on many BBC systems and protocols. I was also involved in Big Weekend in Exeter working with the 1 Million Hours team. Some of the things I did -

  • Edited ‘top of the hour’ montages that went out on air for 1Xtra.

  • Working on Scott Mills’ show as part of the production team, editing clips for Innuendo Bingo, producing research packs and ideas development.

  • As part of Matt Edmondson’s team I did the above and also found callers for the show and took part in a live stream where I was in charge of guest liaison and health and safety.

  • While on Trevor Nelson’s show I was assistant producer for a week’s worth of shows. During this time we also did a Live Lounge which was testing but I thrived.

  • Attended and was an active part of playlist meetings for both stations.

  • I was a part of creative sessions for different shows.

  • As a team of interns we revamped the Radio 1 and 1xtra careers page to make it more inviting and clear for young people who wanted to be involved in work experience/volunteering or the internship.
